More Space Overview:
Cleaning Files

When you're ready to clean up or get rid of a file or folder, you have a few options. You may immediately remove the file or folder from your hard drive permanently; you may move it to the recycle bin, in case you change your mind later and want to undelete it; or you may choose to zip up (compress) it and store it someplace so you may retreive it later. If you do not have WinZip or some other zipping program, you have the option to not delete the files after zipping them up and thus just use it to make a backup copy.

The Quick Clean option enables you to quickly search your hard drive for temporary files. It shows you all of the files matching the extensions you chose, from largest to smallest file size. You may change the order to sort by extension to easily select all files of a particular type. You may then mark and delete them all at once, or pick and choose which files to delete.

Also in the Quick Clean screen you can choose Add/Delete to customize the list of temporary file extensions. You may add as many as you like, or remove extensions that aren't needed. If you accidentally remove one you wanted to keep, simply choose Defaults to restore the default list of extensions.

When surfing the internet, your browser will store files on your hard drive so when you return to a web page it will load much quicker. These temporary internet files, referred to collectively as a cache, can accumulate over time and eat away at your hard drive space. The Clear Internet Files option will delete these files for you. You may choose how old the files must be to be deleted, or you may simply delete them all. You may also edit the list and add or remove directories.

Many times people accidentally delete files they want to keep, and must then spend many hours recreating them. More Space avoids this problem by keeping a "non-delete" list of files and folders that should not be deleted. Whenever you choose to delete a file or folder, More Space checks this list first and will warn you if it is found. You can edit the list manually, or you may let More Space build the list for you automatically, using the Windows registry. These files and folders will appear in bold lettering in the other areas of More Space, letting you know at a glance what files/folders you shouldn't delete.

If you chose to archive some of your files or folders instead of deleting them, More Space created a zip file on your hard drive, containing those files and/or folders. You may use the Unzip Archive Files option to open that file and restore the files back to where they used to be. Of course, you could have several zip files in different places on your hard drive, and so the window has two parts. One is for browsing your hard drive and the other for displaying the contents of the current zip file. Unzipping the archive is then just a click away.
