Initial release of Trumpet Pro - January 2010

Trumpet Pro has finally been released for the popular Iphone and Ipod Touch devices.  This new app is now available in the Itunes Store and ready to go.

Trumpet Pro is a bit more expensive than other apps on the Itunes Store.  The standard $0.99 app price came about since individual songs were priced at that point.  Nevermind, that entire albums might cost up to $20.

However, since Trumpet Pro is not a game or toy or song, its price should not be compared to other apps in the Itunes store.  Rather it should be compared to other tools in the trumpet players toolbox.

Consider the following and you'll see that a single copy of Trumpet Pro (assuming that you already have an Ipod Touch or Iphone) is very reasonable.  Quality lessons aren't cheap as I've paid $150 for a 2 hour lesson from a well respected nationally known trumpet artist/teacher.  And yes it was worth it.

 Beginner-quality trumpet  $200 - $500
 Professional-quality trumpet  $2,000 and up
 Flugelhorn  $1,500 and up
 Straight mute  $10
 Harmon mute  $40
 High quality music stand  $40
Arbans method book for trumpet  $40
 Student mouthpiece Bach 3C  $35
 Professional mouthpiece  $100 and up
Best of Miles Davis CD  $14 plus shipping
Private lessons  $80 per month (30 min lessons)

If using Trumpet Pro can help you win an audition or a gig then it's well worth it!

Additionally, you will get hours of use from Trumpet Pro.  Even if you exhaustively play the included exercises, you can always write your own or copy an exercise from a book.   A typical Iphone game will be played for a few weeks for only a few minutes at a time then you'll discard it once you've beaten the game or gotten tired of it.  The same is not true of Trumpet Pro. You'll find yourself playing it over and over and will never tire of it as there's nothing to beat or finish.  It's designed to be part of your ongoing practice schedule in the quest to master the art of trumpet playing.

One of our Itunes reviewers said: "When you have time to kill this will improve your trumpet playing better than shooting down jets or throwing paper into a trash can."  I couldn't have said it better myself.  Games are a fine way to pass the time but why not work on improving your craft when you have idle time to spare?
